Tyyawdi Hands

Judge Ty Hands born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. She received her Bachelor of Arts in English, magna cum laude, from Winston-Salem State University and her Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law. Judge Hands was appointed to the District Court bench in 2009 by Governor Beverly Perdue and has since been elected to two additional four-year terms.  She has served as Mecklenburg County’s Lead Domestic Violence judge and presides over juvenile, domestic violence, criminal and civil courts. She also regularly presides over
F.I.R.S.T. court- a treatment court for child welfare involved families seeking substance abuse recovery.
