New film “Fast Color” the epitome of #BlackGirlMagic

Talented Black actors and filmmakers are finally starting to be recognized in mainstream Hollywood, and all we can say is—it’s about time. Movies like ‘Black Panther,’ and ‘If Beale Street Could Talk’ have proven that diverse faces and stories are valued. Scheduled to be released late March, ‘Fast Color’ is expected to join the ranks of great films featuring strong leads of color.

Starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw as a woman who is forced to run away after her supernatural powers are discovered. She is sent on a harrowing journey that redefines the meaning of home for her and her daughter, played by Saniyya Sidney.

Gugu grew up in England with an English mother and a black South African father. She first began acting on stage and even moved to London as a young adult to attend the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Her first breakout role came in 2013 when she played the namesake lead in the independent film Belle, the true story of an English slave master’s “illegitimate” daughter advocating for abolition. Mbatha-Raw would go on to be nominated and win many awards for her performance.

Breakout star Saiyya Sidney is the embodiment of young #blackgirlmagic. She is currently starring in the Fox drama The Passage, which also incorporates sci-fi elements of discovering her superpowers and being forced into hiding. Before this series, Sidney appeared in many classic Black films including Roots and Fences.

With director Julia Hart spearheading this project and a talented cast to bring her vision to life, we’re excited to see Fast Colors on the silver screen. Watch the most recent trailer below:  Releasing March 29,2019
